Interim CRO
Mark Ellis is media industry sales executive with three decades of experience leading sales organizations for some of the largest and most iconic media companies in the world. He has a proven track record of driving revenue and creating and maintaining high level customer relationships. His areas of expertise include revenue model development, custom solutions, sales structure, sales enablement, sales tools, compensation plans, talent assessment and sourcing, organizational alignment and digital platforms.
Mark’s most recent role was Chief Client Officer at The Arena Group. He also served as Chief Revenue Officer at Maven, overseeing direct sales for Sports Illustrated, The Street and other publishers. Before that he was CRO for Valassis, a private equity-owned marketing services company specializing in consumer activation via multi-channel delivery of deals, offers and coupons.
Prior to that, Mark was President and Chief Operating Officer, Sales and Marketing, for Time Inc., a $3B+ publicly traded media company. He led the revenue organization and played a key role in integrating print and digital capabilities and offerings for 30+ consumer brands and for developing brand-building and data-driven solutions for marketers and agencies.
In his role as Vice President North American Sales and Global Partnerships at Yahoo!, he led a 300-person sales organization and was responsible for over $3.5B in revenue. Key components of the role included the overhaul of the sales structure and strategy, as well as the introduction of new ad products, technologies and formats.
As Executive Vice President North American Sales at AOL, Mark led the sales, sales development, agency, and account management teams, and was a key member of the executive management team that took the $3.5B company public.
A Detroit native, Mark earned an undergraduate degree in marketing from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of Detroit. In his spare time, he advises start-up companies, is a mentor for students and professionals and serves or has served on a variety of boards including Forgotten Harvest, the Internet Advertising Bureau and the American Advertising Federation.
